What does this project do?
Safety, Security, & Accessibility
Secure Entrances & Drop-Off: Secure entrances and improved drop-off areas will provide better security and accessibility for all students.
Eliminating Modulars: By eliminating modular buildings, the school becomes a unified and secure environment where students can remain within a single building. This enhances security and simplifies teacher supervision between classes.
Accessibility for all: Currently, students who participate in Title reading or stage-based performances and are wheelchair-bound, cannot access those services.
Air Quality & Health Environment: The current HVAC system was not designed and cannot provide the adequate recommended fresh air necessary to meet the updated standards of today’s work and learning environments. Energy Recovering Ventilation Units (ERV), the installation of additional fresh air ductwork and exhaust ventilation, in addition to improved design in the current building, will provide fresh, clean air for students and staff to provide the optimum learning environment. The new addition will be designed in accordance with current standards to meet fresh and healthy air in the learning environment.
Operations
Program: The addition will provide classroom space for over ten programs currently in closets, storage rooms, or hallways. It will also have areas for students with behavioral, emotional, or learning needs to learn in small groups without distractions.
Kitchen: The current kitchen is too small and doesn’t meet the required codes, but the addition solves this issue by expanding the kitchen and food preparation area.
Future Growth: The design solves immediate needs with room for growth, allowing up to 625 enrolled students, more hosted activities, and easier staff recruitment.
Classroom Upgrades
Updated Classroom Technology: Updating technology in classrooms will improve safety, and offer a more hands-on learning experience.
Collaboration Learning Spaces: The new addition will create small group spaces where students can collaborate with their peers, helping them prepare for their future careers.
Updated Shop & Ag Learning Spaces: A larger space will accommodate more students. Updated equipment and new ag partnerships will allow for more student learning opportunities.
